Hull UFO Society Interview - Tony Barker

Q. How long have you been a member of HUFOS - Hull UFO Society?

A. I’ve been a member for six years!!!

Q. How did you become interested in Ufology and UFO’s?

A. When I was about 10 years old, I saw a ball of orange light moving in the sky near my home on Orchard Park, Hull. It was nothing like I had ever seen before. But as I became a teenager I developed an interest in other things, you know…… women and beer!!!! Then eventually I grew out of this phase and developed my interest in UFO’s again.

Like most people, they see something and think “Oh Yeah” and then forget about it. But I’ve always had a passive interest. Then when I joined HUFOS – Hull UFO Society I started taking a more active role in Ufology.

Q. I understand you’re a regular skywatcher?

A. Yes I go out and watch the sky and stars whenever I can, which is usually about 3 to 4 times a week. That’s one of the good things about being a member of the Hull UFO Society, its the regular Skywatches where you can meet like minded people and the down to earth attitude of the organisers and skywatcher’s make it so enjoyable!

Q. What’s the furthest you have been for a skywatch?

A. That would have to be Wiltshire. A 250 mile round trip from Hull.

Q. What is your favourite UFO case?

A. That would have to be without doubt the Rendlesham forest incident classed as The British Roswell.

Q. What have you done to investigate this case?

A. I have been down to Rendlesham Forest several times. Most notably on the 20th anniversary where I met Larry Warren and Nick Redfern. We became good friends with both of them and they have since both been to Hull UFO Societies monthly meetings several times to give great presentations.

I also met Brenda Butler whilst down there and all I can say to anyone interested in the case get off your backside go down there and take a look around for yourselves……..because the lighthouse theory…… “What a load of b#ll@cks!”

Something really big did happened down there back in 1980 and all these armchair Ufologists and internet webmasters who think they know it all should try going down there and do some leg work!!!

Q. What’s your pet hate in Ufology?

A. All the back biting by Armchair Ufologists and too many people in this subject are stuck up their own a@s!!

Q. Who is your favourite Ufologist?

A. Me (Laughing). No, I haven’t got one. I’m not into all this hero-worshipping lark. I don’t believe there is such a thing as an expert. Experts are just people with generally accepted opinions.

However, there are people that I like in Ufology. Apart from those already mentioned who I like: Jose Escamilla, the work he’s doing with the Rods phenomena is great. Andy Kelley is alright (LOL), as is Russ Kellet. I also like Jon Downes, a bloody good bloke and he can sup ale for England! (Still Laughing).

Q. What is your favourite book?

A. That would have to be Alien Liaison by Timothy Good.

Q. Have you got a message for our readers?

A. Yes……..get out of your armchairs and go support your local UFO Society or Club. Better still, attend a skywatch…. (we don’t bite……..HONEST)

Remember, a Society or club is only as good as its organisers/members and without the organisers/members, clubs and societies around the world will cease to exist!
